With a 0.01 micron membrane — 20× finer than LifeStraw — the Blackout Water Survival Straw removes 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.9% of protozoa from any freshwater source. Screw it onto a bottle. Drink straight from a creek. Use it as a gravity filter. One tool. Any emergency. Unlimited clean water.
Buy once. Store forever. Be ready for anything.
"A filter that lasts a lifetime and could save my family's life? That's a no-brainer. I bought one for every member of my family, my parents, and some friends. It's the one thing I hope I never have to use, but I have peace of mind knowing my family will always have clean drinking water, no matter what."
Most families are completely exposed to one of the most predictable emergency scenarios there is: losing access to clean water.
Flood. Cyclone. Burst water main. Bushfire cutting off your suburb. A boil water notice that lasts 72 hours while bottled supplies sell out in 20 minutes. These aren't freak events — they happen every Australian summer. And most families have nothing in place for them.
Bottled water is not a plan. It runs out. It's heavy. You can't buy it when everyone else is trying to.
Stored water runs out too. The average household has 2–3 days of water stored. Most emergency events last longer than that.
The Blackout Water Survival Straw gives you something better: the ability to create clean drinking water from any freshwater source you can find. A creek. A puddle. A rainwater tank. Tap water during a boil notice. You are no longer dependent on supply chains, supermarkets, or infrastructure.
Stored water is finite. The ability to filter any water source is not.
Most portable filters are built for campers drinking from clear mountain streams. The Blackout Water Survival Straw is built for the messier reality of emergency water sources — flood runoff, municipal water under a boil alert, stagnant rainwater. At 0.01 microns, the membrane is fine enough to block bacteria and protozoa that most filters simply aren't rated for.
Drink directly from any water source. Screw it onto any standard 28mm bottle to fill and carry clean water. Or hang it as a gravity filter and let water drip through into a container while you focus on other things. Most straws give you one option. This gives you three.
The Blackout Water Survival Straw filters 1,800 gallons — enough to supply one adult with drinking water for years of emergency use. There are no replacement cartridges, no maintenance cycles, no recurring cost. One purchase, indefinite coverage.
No batteries. No pumps. No electricity. No setup time under pressure. Blackout Water Survival Straw operates entirely on suction — put it in water, drink. That's it. Simple tools fail less. Simple tools work when you're stressed.
Some emergency supplies expire. The Blackout Water Survival Straw doesn't. Pack it away in your emergency kit, your car, or your hiking bag and it will perform identically whether you pull it out in six months or six years.
"I've been meaning to sort out our emergency water situation for years. After the floods came through two suburbs over last January, I finally stopped putting it off. Bought the 5-pack — one in each car, two in the home kit, one in my daughter's school bag. Quality is genuinely impressive. Tested it on the creek at the back of our property. Crystal clear, no taste, no drama. The ebook that came with it was a bonus I actually read."
"I had a LifeStraw that came with a hiking kit years ago and never thought much about it. A friend mentioned these were significantly finer and I went down a rabbit hole comparing specs. She was right. The 0.01 micron difference is real. These are now in our go-bag along with three weeks of other supplies. My husband was sceptical at first — now he's the one who told our neighbours to buy some."
"We're on tank water on our property outside Ballarat. During summer when the tanks get low and the water quality changes, I was using these regularly for a few months — not just as backup. Survived three months of questionable tank water without getting sick once. Fast flow, easy to clean, holds up to daily use. Not just an emergency product."
"My partner and I bought the 2-pack initially and immediately went back for the 10-pack to give to both sets of parents. My mother-in-law is in her 70s and lives alone — knowing she has one in her home kit is genuinely reassuring. Lightweight, easy for older hands to use, no complicated instructions. The fact that it screws onto a water bottle instead of requiring her to crouch at a tap makes it actually usable for her."
Creek, river, lake, rainwater tank, or tap water under a boil notice. Submerge the filter tip below the surface. Blackout Water Survival Straw works in any freshwater source — the murkier the water, the more the filtration matters.
Drink directly through the mouthpiece — ideal when you're at the water source. Or screw the filter onto any standard 28mm bottle, fill it, and carry clean water with you. For hands-free filtering, hang the straw above a container and let gravity do the work.
After use, blow gently back through the mouthpiece to push any trapped sediment out of the filter. This clears the membrane and extends the filter's lifespan. Cap both ends and store. It's ready again immediately — no drying time, no maintenance, no parts to lose.
The marketing around portable water filters is confusing by design. "Removes 99.9% of bacteria" sounds identical whether your filter is 0.01 or 0.2 microns. The difference is in what sits at the boundary — organisms and particles that pass through a larger pore but can't get through a smaller one. When the water source is clean, it doesn't matter. When it isn't, it does. The Blackout Water Survival Straw doesn't leave that margin open.
We're asking you to put your family's safety in this product. That's not a small thing. So here's what we're prepared to back it with: if you buy a Blackout Water Survival Straw today and for any reason — any reason at all — it doesn't meet your expectations, contact us within 365 days and we'll refund every cent you paid. No forms to fill out. No evidence required. No back-and-forth. Just a reply to your order confirmation and a full refund processed within 48 hours.
That's a full year. Time to test it on a camping trip. Time to run it through a flood season. Time to hand one to a family member and see what they think. If at any point in that 365 days you're not completely satisfied, we make it right.
No questions asked.
We're confident in this product because we use it ourselves. But we want you to have that year of proof, not just our word.
The Blackout Water Survival Straw contains two filtration stages: a 0.01 micron hollow-fibre membrane and an activated carbon fibre filter. Water drawn through the straw first passes through the membrane, which physically blocks bacteria, protozoa, and sediment based on their size — they are too large to pass through the 0.01 micron pores. It then passes through the carbon stage, which adsorbs chlorine, organic compounds, and odour-causing chemicals. What reaches your mouth is water that has been mechanically cleaned at both levels. No batteries, no chemicals, no setup — the filtration is driven entirely by the suction of drinking.
The Blackout Water Survival Straw removes bacteria (including E. coli, salmonella, and cholera), protozoa (including Giardia and Cryptosporidium), sediment, particulates, chlorine, and organic chemicals that cause taste and odour problems. It is not rated to remove viruses or dissolved heavy metals. For most Australian freshwater emergency scenarios — flood runoff, creek water, tap water under a boil alert — bacterial and protozoan contamination is the primary risk, and this filter addresses both. If a viral contamination source is suspected, water purification tablets used alongside the straw provide additional coverage.
Boiling is effective for bacterial contamination — but only when you have a heat source, fuel, and time. In a flood, your gas is off. In a power outage, your electric kettle doesn't work. In the field, you need firewood and a container and 10 minutes you may not have. Boiling also does nothing for chemical contamination. The Blackout Water Survival Straw works without any of those dependencies — it filters in seconds, with nothing required beyond the straw and a water source. The two approaches are not mutually exclusive, but a filter that works without power, fuel, or setup is significantly more reliable in the conditions where you actually need it.
Three main differences. First, filtration rating: the Blackout Water Survival Straw's membrane is 0.01 microns versus LifeStraw Personal's 0.2 microns — 20 times finer. Second, the carbon filtration stage: LifeStraw Personal does not include activated carbon, meaning it doesn't address chemical contamination or taste. The Blackout Water Survival Straw does. Third, bottle threading: LifeStraw Personal is a direct-drink straw only — you cannot screw it onto a bottle. The Blackout Water Survival Straw threads onto any standard 28mm bottle, which means you can fill and carry clean water rather than needing to return to the source each time.
One per person at minimum. In practice, most families distribute them so that one is always with each adult (in a car, bag, or jacket) and additional units are stored in the home emergency kit and at the office. For a family of four, we recommend the 5-pack: one per adult, one per older child, and one spare for your emergency bag. The 5-pack is 40% off and includes free shipping — it's the option that covers a family completely without overspending.
Each Blackout Water Survival Straw is rated to filter 1,800 gallons of water. There is no expiry date for dry storage — a straw kept in its sealed packaging will perform identically whether you open it this week or in five years. For context: 1,800 gallons represents roughly 6,800 litres. At emergency-use rates (2 litres per day per person), a single straw covers one adult for over nine years. For most households using this as emergency backup rather than daily carry, a single straw will likely never need replacing.
We offer a 365-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee on all orders. If you're not satisfied for any reason within 365 days of purchase, contact us and we'll issue a full refund. No forms, no proof required, no questions asked. We stand behind what we sell.
